IFEWARA EMPOWERMENT PROJECT

The Ifewara community in Osun State of Nigeria, a peri-urban community is confronted with everyday problems of poverty, which manifest as malnutrition, prevalence of malaria, low literacy level and a lack of basic sanitary facilities. The local economy is characterised by subsistence farming and petty trade. Through this project, 30 units of grinding machines and 20 units of sewing machines were availed to 50 household heads of an average household size of 5 members, thereby directly impacting 250 persons.

The presence of markets in Ifewara also offers the direct beneficiaries the opportunity to avail their services to at least 1000 indirect beneficiaries. This project was purposed to create employment, improve financial well being, stimulate the local economy and reduce unemployment-induced vices.
