Owing to the escalated cases of the novel coronavirus, also referred to as COVID-19, the Federal Government of Nigeria placed an embargo on movement of persons as other economic activities, in order to curb further spread of the virus. It is common knowledge that over 50% of the country’s population are employed in the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) sector, hence the severity of economic impact of the embargo, on Nigerians. This consideration therefore inspired the Food Aid intervention so as to cushion the effect of the embargo and reduce mobility of persons in line with the efforts of the government and other stakeholders in the war against COVID-19. We believe that this Food Aid will further deter hitherto hungry and perhaps helpless Nigerians from adopting untoward survival methods which may jeopardize the safety of fellow citizens and residents.
